A civil lawsuit filed by Dennis Knight of Prairie du Chien against the Prairie du Chien Area School District on Oct. 18, 2018 has been settled in La Crosse County Circuit Court.

Dennis Knight is the father of Talmadge Knight, who was a 14-year-old Bluff View Intermediate School student in 2018 when his hand was burned by a chemical applied by a school official who was trying to remove a profanity written on the boy’s hand.

According to court documents, a minor settlement was agreed to on Jan. 12, 2021. The amount of the settlement was $17,500. Dennis Knight, Talmadge Knight and Talmadge’s guardian, Robert Parsons, had filed the lawsuit.

EMC Property and Casualty Company of Brookfield, and Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire were also named as defendants in the lawsuit.

The case is now closed.
