Suzanne M. “Susie” Walker, 70, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born on March 18, 1950, to Gertrude and Ervin Walker in Seneca, the youngest of four girls. She worked at many different jobs over the years, including Tony’s Grill and McGregor Electronics before settling in at 3M in Prairie du Chien. She worked primarily at the old 3M plant, which is now the site of the county offices, for 34 years, retiring 12 years ago. Susie had a special place in her heart for animals and had many pets over the years including fish, birds, cats, and dogs. Her pets were like her children and she loved each of them dearly. Her beloved Shih Tzus, Coco and Chanel, were her constant companions and gave her great comfort over the past couple of years. After she retired, one of her favorite pastimes was spending time at Frazier’s visiting with people. She enjoyed talking with friends and had so much fun laughing and joking with others. Susie never met a stranger and would not hesitate to start a conversation with anyone close by. She will be remembered for her endless generosity and willingness to help anyone in need without question. She took great pleasure in seeing others enjoy her kindness and was one of those rare individuals whose goodness was solid to her core. Even through all her struggles and trials, she remained a child at heart and found great satisfaction in the little things in life.

Susie is survived by her sisters, Judith Mezera of Dallas, Texas, Jan Smethurst of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Sharon Severson of Eastman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Ervin Walker.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Susie’s name to Southwest Veterinary Services in Prairie du Chien. Condolences may be offered at 58153 State Hwy. 60, Prairie du Chien.

The family requests your prayers during this difficult time. The family would like to express thanks for the wonderful help from multiple friends during Susie’s illness and for the wonderful care given by the doctors and staff of Crossing Rivers Health.

The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
