Terrance R. “Terry” Powers, 80, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 after his battle with dementia.

He was born on March 21, 1940, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Clara (Berntgen) and James Powers. He moved to Rockford, Ill., to begin his 30 years of being one of the best forklift drivers Chrysler in Belvidere ever had. He was a very hard working, loving father and grandfather that instilled his work ethic in his three daughters. He also knew how to have fun. He made sure there was a yearly family vacation (even when times were tough). He enjoyed sharing his love of camping, boating and fishing with his two grandsons, Nick and Aneil. Terry and his wife, Clara, also spent many winters enjoying the Florida sunshine. His sense of humor, quiet laughter and caring personality will be missed by many.

Terry is survived by his wife of 59 years Clara (Mezera); three daughters, Sheryl (Sunil) Srivastava of Chicago, Ill., Julie Powers of Normal, Ill. and Sandy (Dan) Vincent of Rockford, Ill; two grandsons, Nick and Aneil; and his brother, John (Annette) Powers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Powers; brother, Gordon Powers; and sister, Margaret Wachter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of departure for church. A celebration of life meal and get together will be planned in the summer.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Croix hospice.

Terry’s family would like to thank the ladies of St. Croix hospice and Lori Knapp, along with Mary Ronafelt for their excellent care and loving support.
