Harold Kuntz

Harold August Kuntz, 91, of St. Olaf, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader, Iowa. Harold was born on February 28, 1925, in Ridgeway, Iowa to Walter F Kuntz and Augusta M (Vatthauer) Kuntz. He grew up an active farm boy on the family farm near Ridgeway. He graduated from Ridgeway High School.

Mildred Kelly-Posten

Mildred “Mikki” Kelly-Posten, age 82, of LaCrosse, formerly of Bloomington, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Brookdale Assisted Living in LaCrosse.  

Mildred was born on September 15, 1934, in St. Olaf, IA, the daughter of Alvin and Mabel (Hackert) Klinkenberg.  She graduated from St. Olaf School in 1951.  

Mildred married Lyle Posten in July 1966 at the Prairie du Chien United Methodist Church.  Lyle preceded her in death in 2006. She was united in married to Keith Kelly in 2008.

HARLEY HANDS OFF BUSINESS

After servicing area homes and businesses for 35 years, Harley Reichart sold his Central Plumbing & Heating business to Craig Fisher last January 11. Fisher previously worked at businesses in Cedar Rapids and Center Point.

“I still go down to the shop,” Reichart said. “I’m still going out and doing job estimates.”

Anna Marie Butikofer

Anna Marie Butikofer, 80, of Elgin, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Anna Marie, the daughter of Azel and Norma Augusta (Warner) Pratt, was born November 1, 1935, at her home near Elkader, Iowa. Ann graduated from Central High School in Elkader.  Prior to her marriage, Ann worked as a switchboard operator for the Elkader Telephone Office.

Loraine Possehl

Loraine Possehl, 90, of Elkader, died Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born January 28, 1926, to Gerhardt and Mabel (Harnack) Renken in rural Postville.

Loraine was united in marriage to Henry Louis “Red” Possehl on June 19, 1944, in Elkader. Two sons were born to this union.

She enjoyed auctions, antiques, crossword puzzles, card playing and bingo. Loraine was a bookkeeper for Leonard Auction Company for a number of years; then worked as a cook at Central Community School before retiring.

Many hobby enthusiasts have a section of their homes set aside to display their various collections, be it a few shelves or display cases, or perhaps a room or two. For Elkader resident Tom Chandler, the display area for his collection is a 50x50 foot garage attached to his house. In it are 12 of his 18 restored collectible automobiles.

   Anita Rose Schmelzer, age 89, of Garnavillo, IA, died Thursday, October 6, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. She was born on July 10, 1927 in Garber, the daughter of Amadeus and Viola (Matt) Berns.
