Timothy Troester

 

Timothy Raymond Troester, 43, died on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Crossing River Health in Prairie du Chien, WI. He was born November 20, 1971, in Dubuque, IA to Raymond and Janis (Hamann) Troester. Timothy was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, McGregor. He graduated from Mar-Mac High School in 1990 and continued his education at U-W Platteville and then transferred to Upper Iowa, where he earned his BA in business. Timothy was united in marriage with Darcy Winters on March 9, 2011.

Marjorie Meyer

 

Marjorie Ann Meyer, 83, of Janesville, formerly of Elkader, died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at an adult group home in Janesville, WI.  Marjorie was born December 28, 1931, in Elkader, to Eldo and Josephine (Miller) Meyer. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School during her early years.

Exercising was one of the hobbies that she greatly enjoyed.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Alan Moser

 

Alan F. Moser, 50, of Clarence, passed away on Saturday February 28, 2015 at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the North Cedar Middle School in Clarence with Pastor Lynn Butterbrodt officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 3, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at North Cedar Middle School in Clarence. Another visitation will be held on Wednesday March 4 from 5-7 p.m. at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg. A graveside service will be held on Thursday March 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Guttenberg.

Hydroponics at Central, Growing tomatoes, lettuce year-round

Long before area gardeners set the first tender vegetable plants into the ground, Central students will be enjoying fresh, vine-ripened tomatoes and leafy lettuce grown in a basement-level classroom. And they’ll continue harvesting and eating the veggies until the school year ends.

Bells ring out at Peace

Throughout almost any town you can hear church bells ring from their towers each Sunday.  However, on the third of each month, September through May, you can hear 1 1 sets of hand bells ringing from within Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader at the 9 a.m. worship service.

Emma Louise Griffith

 

Emma Louise (Mather) Griffith was born December 21, 1915, in Minneapolis, Minn. and died February 16, 2015, at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader, Iowa.

A memorial service was planned at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015, at Peace United Church of Christ In Elkader.  Friends gathjered and greeted family beginning at 10 a.m. until service time. A private inurnment in East Side Cemetery will be planned at a later date.

Dorothy Hulbert

 

Dorothy H. Hulbert, 85, of Elkader, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester, Iowa. Dorothy Helen Bernice Kremer was born on September 27, 1929, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Wilhelmina (Seng) Kramer. She graduated from North High School in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1949. Dorothy married Joseph John Hulbert on March 25, 1950. In 1954, the family moved to Elkader, Iowa.

During her life in Elkader, Dorothy worked at the Clayton County Courthouse, the Ben Franklin Store, and numerous other Elkader businesses, finally retiring from the secretarial position at Peace United Church of Christ in 1995.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Walter Long passed away in Apache Junction, Arizona, on February 10, 2015, at the age 75.
