Gary E. Vogt

Gary E. Vogt, 73, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien.

He was born Nov 11, 1946, the son of Eugene and Lucille (Vorwald) Vogt.

Bradyn Saint, junior 170#, puts a boot in as he digs an arm bar while posting with his head. Saint would go on the defeat his opponent by fall.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, Prairie du Chien 132-pound wrestler Matt Rogge won his 100th career match at the TKO in Fort Atkinson. Rogge, a junior, becomes just the 15th wrestler in the history of PDC wrestling to have 100 wins. The other PDC wrestlers with at least 100 wins are Traeton Saint 169, Taylor Elliott 150, Nick Rogge 142, Stephen Ronnfeldt 137, Mike Lenzendorf 134, Zach Elliott 132, Reid Koenig 124, Alex Stormoen 123, Clayton Beers 122, Blake Garcia 114, Bradyn Saint 112, Evan Sinram 109, Tyler Smock 102, Colten Wall 100. Congratulations Matt!

 

On Saturday, the Blackhawk grapplers traveled to Fort Atkinson for the 10th annual TKO (Terry Kramer Open). Seventeen teams were in attendance, comprised of nine D1 teams and eight D2 teams. 

PDC would finish second with 369.5 points, just 14 points behind D1 rated Slinger with 383.5.

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks beat the Platteville Hillmen 47-34 in a Friday night match-up of two familiar conference opponents to improve to 3-2 in the conference.

The Prairie du Chien boys hosted Platteville in the fifth conference match-up of the season. The Hawks got out to another slow start during the first half but relied on their defense to keep them in the game as they were down at half by a score of 13-12.

Adam John Beardmore

Adam John Beardmore, 5, of Fennimore, went to the loving arms of the Lord, on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. 

Adam was born on Jan. 14, 2014, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Cory Beardmore and Dana Konichek. 

Adam is survived by his parents, Cory and Dana; two brothers, Skyler Heginger and Carson Beardmore; maternal grandpa, John Konichek; paternal grandparents, Terry and Marilee Beardmore; paternal great-grandparents, Curt and Rita Beardmore; aunts and uncles, Kim (Aaron) Maag, John Konichek Jr., Brenda (Walt) Ready, Crystal Brown, Ross Brown, Avery Beardmore; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Methamphetamine found in vehicle

On Jan. 14, at 8:40 p.m., a deputy from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Buick Century on Sunbeam Boulevard in the village of Soldiers Grove. 

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kaitlyn Fitzgerald, 32, of Platteville, and the front passenger as Jamie Boyland, 37, of Platteville. It was discovered that the license plates on the vehicle were suspended. There was no insurance on the vehicle and both Fitzgerald and Boyland did not have valid driver’s licenses.

Woman charged in the shooting of her boyfriend

A 51-year-old Boscobel woman has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of second degree reckless injury in the shooting of her boyfriend in the village of Wauzeka.

Cheryl Lippitt faces up to a $25,000 fine and 12.5 years in prison if convicted.

According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 24, 2019, Lippitt called the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department stating she shot Harold Schuh Jr. in a residence in Wauzeka.

Schuh told a deputy that he was shot in the right elbow and stomach. The deputy put some paper towel on the wound and placed pressure on it until the EMS arrived.

Pickup and trailer jackknife

On Jan. 18, at 6:12 p.m., Crawford County dispatch received a report of a pickup and livestock trailer that had jackknifed on Highway 27 and Limery Road in Prairie du Chien Township.

Lowell L. Kapinus, 56, Prairie du Chien, was operating a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, pulling an empty 1985 Featherlite livestock trailer northbound on Highway 27. The truck and trailer slid completely across the southbound lane of traffic, then off the roadway where they jackknifed. Strong winds and the ice-covered roadway were both contributing factors to the crash.

Lost motorist jailed for several possible violations

On Jan. 17, at 9:45 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a suspicious vehicle possibly in the ditch near the intersection of Vet Lane and Highway 60 in the town of Bridgeport. 

The caller stated that all of the vehicle’s exterior and interior lights were on, and there was loud music coming from the vehicle.
