Beautiful new Prairie du Chien library needs some landscaping

By Correne Martin

The new Prairie du Chien Public Library is an evolving and happening place of helpful discovery—on the inside. But outside the facility, which was renovated and expanded in 2018, patrons may have noticed the landscaping leaves much to be desired.

A pointed effort has begun to bring the grounds up to speed with the modern opportunity that’s available inside the public library.

“It’s not much on the outside, but they’re very visible grounds,” said Cindy Robertson, who’s leading the charge toward creating a more inviting, aesthetically-appealing exterior for the library.

Inmate stabs officer

The Boscobel inmate who has been charged with two counts of attempted murder for assaulting two correctional officers at Boscobel Gundersen Hospital last June shanked another officer Monday at the Boscobel prison.

Wisconsin Secure Program Facility inmate Dexter Ewing, 48, of Milwaukee, has been held in segregation since the June 25 attacks, but has refused to come out of his cell for the past two months. On Monday, two correctional officers were directed to conduct a forced removal, and that’s when the attack occurred with a homemade weapon Ewing fashioned in his cell.

The officer was stabbed in the neck, but his partner was able to push Ewing away and avoid serious or fatal injuries, according to sources that wished to remain anonymous.

Get after your goals: Fitness testimonials from friends, neighbors

Prairie du Chien’s Hoffman Hall offers a myriad of fitness and aquatics classes over the winter. What follows is a sampling of the courses, instructors and participant testimonials about their results and experiences.

Yoga—taught by Connie Hudson, who started yoga practice in 2006 and has evolved to leading Hatha Yoga and Yin Yoga: “A Hatha flow combines breath with movement in active physical postures. A Yin flow is a gentler practice that allows us to work the deeper tissues of the body. All yoga poses can be modified so you can practice throughout your lifetime. Yoga makes me feel good and I enjoy sharing both practices.”

“Yoga class is relaxing and calming after a long day at work” – L.B.
