Luna Fae is first baby of new year in Prairie du Chien

The first baby born in Prairie du Chien in 2020 is Luna Fae Hogan, who came into this world at 6:02 a.m., Jan. 1. Proud parents are Skyla and Sean Hogan of Prairie du Chien.

Six arrested on requested meth charges

The Prairie du Chien Police Department has concluded multiple drug investigations with the arrests of six suspects. Over the course of the last 10 months, the department conducted its investigations with cooperation frin the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigations. The results, according to a department news release, include arrests and requested charges for the following individuals:

Raymond McCullick, 31, of Prairie du Chien, seven counts of delivery of methamphetamine

Charles H. Marx

Charles H. Marx, 81, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at the Prairie Maison Care Center.

He was born July 5, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Hubert and Anna (Krachey) Marx. 
Charlie worked at Rexall’s Drug Store in Prairie du Chien, Nugent Dentistry and was a well-known vendor of greeting cards and stationery, which he peddled door-to-door in this community. He also enjoyed mowing, raking, snow shoveling and his work at the Opportunity Center.  

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Michael (Sandy), Dawn (Jeff), Rhonda, Richard, James, David, Randy, Michelle, J.T., Patrick and Elizabeth; his Wauzeka family, Greg, Rhonda, Joe, Xander and Jimmy.

Harold B. Dull

Harold B. Dull, 97, of Soldiers Grove, died peacefully at home on Friday, Dec 27, 2019.

Harold was born on July 3, 1922, in Soldiers Grove, to Earl Edward Dull and Anna Bell (Bailey) Dull. He attended Soldiers Grove grade school and high school and graduated in 1941.

Local basketball teams partner with public health for Suicide Prevention Nights

Crawford County Public Health is announcing Suicide Prevention Basketball Nights at North Crawford, Prairie du Chien and Seneca Schools in January. 

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. for all ages. 

“Suicide is preventable. Studies show that when people feel connected and have social ties, their risk of suicide goes down,” said Sonya Lenzendorf, Health Educator with Crawford County Public Health. 

Individuals, families and communities all play a role in creating opportunities for people to feel connected and a sense of belonging.

Wauzeka woman shoots boyfriend

On Dec. 24 at 11:56 p.m., the Crawford County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from Cheryl L. Lippitt, 50, Industrial Drive in the village of Wauzeka. Lippitt said she had just shot her live-in boyfriend Harold P. Schuh, 50, and he was inside their residence on Industrial Drive.  

Deputies responded and found Schuh laying on the living room floor. Schuh was conscious and told deputies that he had been shot in the arm and stomach. Deputies found a .45 caliber handgun in the residence which is suspected to be the weapon Lippitt used to shoot Schuh. Schuh was transported to the Boscobel Hospital and transferred to UW Hospital in Madison where he is in stable condition.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at PdCHS


The Zhong Yi Kung Fu troupe, from Madison, will be the main performers during the PdCHS Chinese New Year celebration Jan. 4.

A few days after the American New Year, the Prairie du Chien High School Asia Society will celebrate the Chinese New Year. On Saturday, Jan. 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., students and teachers will welcome the community for this semi-annual festival. There is no fee to attend, though Chinese cuisine will be available for purchase.

Fun-seekers of all ages can enjoy free activities and crafts, like ink blowing art, from 10:30 to 11:45, said PdC Chinese teacher Adam Stout.
