The Wisconsin Legislature has been reviewing a bill that would once again allow school districts to exceed the revenue limit without a referendum for energy efficiency projects. Assembly Bill 553 would reverse a line-item veto in the 2017-2019 state budget in which then Governor Scott Walker instituted a 1,000-year moratorium on the practice.

Caregivers: Register for ‘Day Out’

By Correne Martin

Caregivers know it’s just as important to take care of themselves as it is their loved ones. But finding the best time and back-up caretaker to make that happen is never easy.

To help area guardians get the respite they need, a Caregivers Day Out is being offered Saturday, Dec. 7. From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Aging and Disability Resource Center, of Prairie du Chien, will give caregivers that necessary time away to do whatever they choose, whether it’s to go Christmas shopping, grab lunch with friends, catch a movie at the theater, take a nap, etc.

Long Rifles seek plan B for 2020 Rendezvous

Group working in advance so high river won’t mean cancelation entirely

By Correne Martin

Having no Rendezvous in Prairie du Chien this past June resulted in more lasting effects than the general public may have realized. But the Big River Long Rifles are working to secure a back-up site in advance of next year’s Prairie Villa Rendezvous so that, even if the river is high again in 2020, they can swiftly move the event, rather than cancel it altogether.

“We’ve heard enough from the local people about what was lost. We don’t want to have to cancel again,” explained BRLR club member Julie Warrington. “We want to reach out and get the community’s support. In order to have a Rendezvous next year, we need to have a really solid plan B.”
