Shops may still ‘pop up’ this holiday season

By Correne Martin

The opportunity to have a Pop-Up Shop or two in downtown Prairie du Chien this holiday season is still a possibility.

Prairie du Chien Main Street, Crawford County Community Development, Couleecap and Wisconsin Economic Development are working intensely—with two landlords and three entrepreneurs who’ve submitted applications—toward getting one or a couple small businesses in place as soon as possible, according to Jessica Spayde, Crawford County Community Development Extension Educator.

The goals would be to not only provide a solid support system for a determined entrepreneur and secure income for a landlord, but to also add to the current local shopping options and stimulate commerce in the downtown.

Kennedy in Prairie Sectional

Allison Kennedy watches her birdie attempt from about 25 feet on the first green.

Allison Kennedy watches her second putt on the first green Tuesday.

Allison Kennedy played good but not quite good enough in the WIAA Sectional tournament, played at the Prairie du Chien Country Club, to move on to the State Tournament at University Ridge in Madison.

The Ladyhawk golfer stayed focused throughout her round but struggled on the front nine shooting a 59. Allison started out fast on the back nine but got into some trouble along the way. She still improved her score with a 56 for a 115 total.

Playing in her first sectional, Allison handled the pressure extremely well and kept her composure throughout the round. The sectional experience will only make her better as she continues to mature and her game gets stronger and more consistent.

Top-ranked Edgewood-Sacred Heart won the sectional championship with a team score of 351 and will move on to Madison to defend last year’s Division 2 state title. Osseo-Fairchild/Fall Creek came in second with a team score of 403.
