Stark’s Sport Shop to host 75th anniversary event

Randy, Deidre, Alex and Ron Stark are the third and fourth generations who run Stark’s Sport Shop today. Deidre is holding an old cream can, which was used to transport cream from the creamery to the sweet shop owned by Frank Stark in the late '30s/early '40s. (Photo by Ted Pennekamp)

In 1954, Richard Stark, service manager of Stark’s Sport Shop, examines the new 5.5 horsepower outboard that won the National Noise Abatement Council’s Certificate of Merit for quiet operation. The photo was taken at the Waukegan, Ill. Johnson Motors factory, where Dick was specially trained in outboard mechanics.

This is the view from inside the store in 1957 at its current location.
