Pick-Up-and-Go Camp for homebound kids

Sodes Green Acre reopens

Sodes Green Acre, located at 7 Goethe Street in Guttenberg, has re-opened after briefly closing its doors in compliance to recommendations by Gov. Kim Reynolds in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The restaurant, gift shop, gourmet store and liquor store has something for everyone. Sodes is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Cafe serving hours are from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Reopening guidelines for Clayton County businesses

Governor Reynolds’ proclamation on April 27 allowed specific counties to re-open select types of businesses and establishments. Clayton County is one of 77 counties allowed to re-open with specific regulations.

Isabella R. Auer

The soul of Isabella Rose Auer, 17, was called home to Jesus on April 28, 2020, after courageously battling DIPG, a terminal brain cancer, for almost one year. Isabella offered her sufferings and carried her cross with humble quietness, grace, and dignity. Just hours before passing she was Anointed and given the Apostolic Pardon.

Cynthia Lynn Mueller, 47, of Garnavillo, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020, surrounded by her family.

Due to the COVID-19 concerns, there will be a private family service and interment. The family plans to hold a public memorial at a later date. 

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Rev. Monsignor John R. McClean

Rev. Monsignor John Robert McClean, 87, of Dubuque, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at UnityPoint Finley Hospital in Dubuque.

Msgr. McClean deserves a beautiful tribute. However, in this unknown time with the COVID-19 pandemic, having a public visitation is not possible. Please be with us in prayer. 

The Mass of Christian Burial for Msgr. McClean will be Saturday, May 2, at Church of the Resurrection celebrated by Archbishop Michael Jackels and priests of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

Keith Saeugling, the son of Clarence and Alma Saeugling, calls himself a "lifetime resident" of Guttenberg.  He and his three brothers, Roger, Paul and Clark, and his sister, Mariann, were born and raised along the shores of the Mississippi River.

City council special meeting

At a special noon meeting on Monday, April 27, the Gutttenberg city council set a public hearing on a proposed federal loan for the local hospital and heard the mayor present a new policy for citizen complaints.

At the council table were Mayor Bill Frommelt, City Manager Denise Schneider, and councilmembers Mick Pierce, Austin Greve, Fred Schaub, and Jane Parker; Virginia Saeugling participated via teleconference.
