How the CP Railway replaced the Turkey River bridge in record time

Workers who took part in the successful railroad bridge replacement project posed for a commemorative photo in this aerial shot. (Photo submitted)

Submitted by Canadian Pacific Railway

Late on the night of March 14, 2019, large chunks of ice pressed against each other near the mouth of Iowa's Turkey River near Millville, forming a dam and causing the river to rise by six feet in mere minutes. Five spans of the bridge on CP's Marquette Subdivision main line across the river were lifted as a result and toppled into the icy water, leaving a 400-foot gap.

Rowland Brothers Cedar Creek Rod Shop restoration

This 1955 Chevy 210 Sedan with a modern fuel-injected Chevy LS3 525-horsepower engine and custom leather interior showcases the custom work performed by Cedar Creek Rod Shop. The owner of the vehicle is Shawn Wallace of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. (Photo submitted)

Located on a gravel road amidst a dense population of sturdy trees, complete with wild turkeys yelping in the background and deer tip-toeing their way through the woods, is the home of Cedar Creek Rod Shop, making its location and business objective quite a dichotomy.

Shannon and Jared Rowland, brothers and proprietors of the Rod Shop, grew up in a family deeply rooted and hard-wired in the traditions of fast cars and souped-up automobiles.
