Linda Irene (Horns) Kasper, 67, of Des Moines passed away on Feb. 13, 2019, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after battling peritoneal cancer. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Urbandale. Visitation starts at 1 p.m., and the service will begin at 2 p.m.. Please join us for a meal and to share memories afterward.

Lois M. Streich, 88, of Guttenberg and formerly of Oelwein, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019. at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, surrounded by her children.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and before the services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 25, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein.

Guttenberg is blessed with a large assortment of healthy, strong trees. They support beautiful snowfalls on their limbs in the winter and sport intense, light green, leaf buds in the spring. They provide a dark green canopy of shade mid-summer and draw travelers from near and far in the fall as they begin to show their true colors.

Debbie Eulberg retires after 25 years of city service

The City of Guttenberg's administrative assistant and payroll clerk, Debbie Eulberg, has retired after 25 years of dedicated service. 

A gathering was held in her honor at the municipal building on Feb. 11. Eulberg has seen many changes throughout her years of employment.

Bernita Ina Thein Brady, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at her home at The Villages Cooperative.

At Bernita’s request, there will be no funeral service. Memorials may be directed to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, 9000 C Ave NE, Marion, IA 52302. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mobile food truck ordinance receives final city council approval

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 11 gave final approval to a mobile food truck ordinance, a topic that has occupied council attention since it was first introduced last May.

Mayor Bill Frommelt led councilmembers Mick Pierce, Austin Greve, Fred Schaub, Virginia Saeugling and Jane Parker through the evening's agenda. Also present at the council table were City Manager Denise Schneider and City Attorney Michael Schuster.

Arlene R. Handke, 81, of Waukon, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating.

Bernice L. Schlueter, 94, of Ryan, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester.

Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ryan. Funeral services followed the visitation conducted by Rev. Gabriel Anderson.

Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.
