The Guttenberg Public Library Board recently hired Kathryn Beitzel for the position of full-time library director. 

In open house for the public is scheduled at the library on Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 4-6 p.m., to introduce Beitzel to the community.

Council moves forward on food truck ordinance, tables property ordinance

The Guttenberg city council in its first meeting of the new year approved the second reading of a mobile food truck ordinance, heard resident concerns about a proposed ordinance that would address building and property maintenance, and approved renovation work on the municipal building auditorium floor.

Cyrenus W. Elsinger, 88, of Guttenberg, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg.

Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 13, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Blume makes CR wrestling history

In Jan. 5 at the varsity wrestling invitational held at Central Community School in Elkader, Michaela Blume, a sophomore at Clayton Ridge High School, made school history. 

Blume  is  the first female wrestler to win a tournament in her weight class in a male-dominated sport.

The competition for an invitation to the Citrus bowl starts in July at the Marching Auxiliary summer dance camp.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 9, at United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Neil Hofer. Visitation was before services at the church.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Dale Alan Pattison, 58, of Guttenberg, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at River Living Center after a brave battle with muscular dystrophy.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elkader and before services at the church.

Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 3, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, conducted by Rev. Marshall Hahn.
