GMH Auxiliary Christmas Bazaar is Nov. 30, Dec. 1

The Guttenberg Municipal Hospital Auxiliary has been an out-stretched hand  from the community to the hospital for generations. This organization's beginnings originated with the creation of the first hospital located on River Park Drive. "Louise Nuehring was one of the founding members," stated current president Karilyn McArthur.

Christmas tour of homes set for this Sunday

The Clayton Ridge High School Class of 2019 will sponsor its annual Holiday Tour of Homes from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25. Tickets can be purchased at any participating home.

Council moves forward on food truck ordinance, okays fireworks change

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on  Tuesday, Nov. 13, moved forward on an ordinance governing mobile food vendors and approved a major change in the site of the Stars and Stripes fireworks display next summer.

Mayor Bill Frommelt led councilmembers Jane Parker, Virginia Saeugling, Fred Schaub, Austin Greve and Mick Pierce through the evening’s agenda. Also on hand were City Manager Denise Schneider and City Attorney Michael Schuster.

Veteran and musician Dennis Hanna reflects on service

Dennis Hanna's Naval career and music career began almost at the same time. "My mother was a cook and my father was a janitor; I knew I wasn't going to college," said Hanna. 

Inspired by his high school band teacher to try out for the Navy School of Music, Hanna's talents were quickly recognized by this branch of the service.

Kermit Pensel

Kermit Pensel, 80, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Elkader Care Center in Elkader.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Andrew Preus. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Janice L. Musser, 83, of Ottawa, Ill., passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at Pleasant View with her loving family by her side.

Visitation was Thursday, Nov. 15, at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home, Ottawa, Ill.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Columba Church, conducted by Rev. David M. Kipfer.

The availability of a wide variety of pumpkins, squash, and gourds, ranging in a large assortment of colors, shapes and sizes, makes this time of year a treasure trove of fun for those wishing to adorn their homes with a Halloween harvest theme.

Clayton County residents elected two new members to the Clayton County Board of Supervisors in mid-term elections held Nov. 6.

Sharon Keehner and Steve Doeppke, both running on the Republican ticket, were named to two vacancies on the Board of Supervisors.

David E. Dettman, 77, of Cape Coral, Fla. and formerly of Postville and Guttenberg passed Oct. 18, 2018.

Per Davids' wishes he was cremated and no services of any kind.
