National accreditation for GMHC Sleep testing can now be done at home or in lab

Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics recently earned accreditation for home sleep testing through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).

An addition to its previous accreditation for in-lab testing, home sleep testing accreditation means that the local sleep lab staff is committed to meeting the standards that facilitate a higher level of performance.

Guttenberg’s Ingleside Park now hosts a marker purchased by Ingleside Club honoring the club's role in establishing the beautiful and unique riverfront park that borders the Mississippi River.

Club member Lee Johnston furnished the following information on the current project and the role that members have played in community betterment for the past 116 years.

Guttenberg is re-designated an Iowa Great Place

Guttenberg was recently re-designated as an Iowa Great Place by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The community originally earned the designation in 2006. The honor carries with it the opportunity to apply for state funding for projects tied to the community's vision plan. (Press photo by Shelia Tomkins)

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs recently re-designated Guttenberg as an Iowa Great Place.

The successful Guttenberg application was submitted by a committee consisting of Mandy Ludovissy of the Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Bill Frommelt, former Mayor Russ Loven, City Manager Denise Schneider, Assistant City Manager Jamie Blume, Dave Schlueter, Cindy Olsen, and Sadie Hefel.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources biologist Karen Osterkamp, who works out of the Guttenberg aquarium office, recently returned from helping with a northeast Iowa camp called Outdoor Journey for Girls. Organized by Iowa Women in Natural Resources with support from the Iowa DNR and Pheasants Forever, the camp is in its 26th year.

Irene Waterman

Irene Waterman, 95, of Dubuque, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Manor Care Center in Dubuque. 

Funeral services were Monday, July 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Madonna L. Ludovissy, 83, of North Buena Vista, was called home peacefully at 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at home, surrounded by her loving family. 

Visitation was Friday, July 20, at Behr Funeral Home, Dubuque and before services at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 21, at Immaculate Conception Church, North Buena Vista, conducted by Rev. Marvin J. Bries.

Mildred Tucker, 105, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., formerly of Guttenberg, died Friday, July 6, 2018.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 21, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Penny Hansel. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Interment was at the Guttenberg City Cemetery.

The Wave of the Future project for Guttenberg’s new swimming pool was awarded a grant in the amount of $480,213 from the Enhance Iowa board’s Community Attractions and Tourism program (EICAT) on Wednesday, July 11, at the Hartman Reserve Nature Center in Cedar Falls.
