Kahle travels to Barcelona, Spain

Clayton Ridge High School 2015 graduate Anna Kahle traveled to Barcelona, Spain, during the month of May, visiting Roman ruins, swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, and touring sites of Spanish art and architecture.

Bernard Tapke Jr.

Bernard Tapke Jr., 85, of Luxemburg, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018, at Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg.

Visitation and funeral services were Friday, July 13, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg. Rev. Noah Diehm officiated and Rev. Richard Gaul concelebrated; the lectors were Melissa Mensen and Jennifer Oberbroeckling; giftbearers were Abby Steffen, Katie Tapke, Amanda Winter and Michelle Ohrt; Terri Ellerbach provided the music; Erin Steffen, Helen Deutmeyer and Dianne Duwe were eucharistic ministers and pallbearers were Nicki Stelken, Joe Steffen, Michael, Alesha and Kyle Tapke.

Miya Isabella Erickson, 14, daughter of Michael and Caroline Erickson and Amy and Walt Zehr was called home to her heavenly father on Sunday, July 8, 2018.

Visitation was Monday, July 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 17, at the church, conducted by Rev. John S. Haugen.

Ardythe Hager, 84, of Guttenberg, died Friday, July 6, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, after a brief illness.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.

Betty Eileen Kremer, 87, of Strawberry Point, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood.

Visitation was Sunday, July 8, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, July 9, at Trinity United Methodist Church, in Edgewood, conducted by Pastor Mike Jackson.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 3, at  the funeral home.

Umbrella Arts has extended its deadline for fish sculptures for its summer sculpture project to Wednesday, Aug. 1. To enter, send a photo and the location of the sculpture to Juanita Loven at lovenrj@alpinecom.net. For contest details, call 563-252-1310.

"There is a wide variety of entries, so take the opportunity to check them out," said Loven. "Some are inside, some outside, and one online." A list of sculpture locations follows (not all are entered in the contest).

The Guttenberg Motel will host its third annual Catfish Tournament on Saturday, July 28. From the first year to the second, the competition grew from 19 teams to 29 teams with total weigh-in of over 350 pounds in 2017 – and organizers Dave and Patty Schwarz expect a similar experience this year.

Edna Grace Thiese, 101, passed away June 23, 2018 at Elkader Care Center, due to natural causes. 

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 27, at Kingdom Hall, Elkader. Visitation was before services.

Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga.
