Neil D. Morarend

Neil Delois Morarend passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home.

Visitation was Wednesday, April 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg followed by a memorial service. 

Burial will be at a later date.

Dave Brown Jr., relinquished his successful car dealership into the capable hands of his sons, David and Forest, and began to focus his attention on his new business venture, "Dave Brown Classic Rides," in January of 2020. The classic car showroom and offices are located in the former Chevrolet garage at 102 Schiller Street in Guttenberg. "The restoration is done right here by our highly-talented staff. These guys are artists!" Brown exclaimed.

City-wide garage sales set for June this year

City-wide garage sales will be held in Guttenberg this year on Friday and Saturday, June 4-5.

Last year, due to pandemic concerns, the schedule broke with the traditional date of the first weekend in May and was held the first weekend in June. 

The event will be coordinated by The Guttenberg Press. Watch upcoming issues for information on placing an ad in the garage sale listing. The ads will appear in The Press and in The Trader.

Chad M. Kuehl

Chad Michael Kuehl, 45, of Garber, died Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital due to complications of COVID-19.

Visitation was Wednesday, April 14, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before service at the church.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 15, at St. John’s Congregational Church in Garber, conducted by Rev. Pam Reinig.

Donna M. Thein, 89, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, April 10, 2021.  

Private family services will be held.  

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Donna was born in Guttenberg on April 3, 1932, the daughter of Edward and Elsie Winch.

Clayton County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is comprised of a victim witness coordinator, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, sexual assault nurse examiners and advocates. These individuals are the primary response to sexual assault.

Police Chief announces summer retirement

Guttenberg Police Chief George Morteo announced plans to retire this summer when he spoke to the city council at the regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 12. "I think it is time that I retire," said the Chief, who has served the community for 29 years. "Effective July 23 I will be done."  The council made plans to advertise for the position with an application deadline of May 17 in order to allow time for hiring and training prior to the Chief's retirement.

Barbara Ann Walter, 78, of Clive, formerly of Guttenberg, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Walnut Ridge Senior Living Community in Clive.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:25 a.m., Saturday, April 17, at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Timothy Braun.
