Earl R. Brimeyer, 82, of Holy Cross, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on Monday, March 1, 2021.

Visitation was Thursday, March 4, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross.

Funeral services were Friday, March 5, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Beverly Herman

Beverly led an unconventional life. She was born June 21, 1936, at her home in Guttenberg. Her parents were Hilda Wench and Fred Follman. She and her two older brothers grew up very poor. Their house had no indoor plumbing and she spoke of going out in the winter cold to use their outhouse.

Mississippi flood risk predicted near-normal

With melting snow and the anticipated arrival of spring, Guttenberg residents have learned to keep an eye on river levels as the traditional spring crest on the Mississippi River approaches.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Services lists the risk of Mississippi River flooding this spring at near-normal to slightly below normal for the Guttenberg area.

Austin Greve, production, accounting, and social media specialist at The Guttenberg Press, was born and raised in Guttenberg. The 37-year-old is the sixth generation of his mother’s family to live in Guttenberg. He attended St. Mary’s School through the eighth grade and graduated from Guttenberg High School in 2001. Following graduation he attended NICC in Peosta, studying computer networking.

Bill Allyn of Guttenberg has been employed as a funeral director with Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Crematory Services for the past 17 years. He graduated high school in 2000. “I graduated in the last completely separate class between Garnavillo and Guttenberg. The class of 2001 graduated as Guttenberg Pirates but all extracurricular activities were blended,” Allyn commented.

County launches new election website

Clayton County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Jennifer Garms announced that Clayton County voters now have a user-friendly website to find all of their election information. The website elections.claytoncountyia.gov officially went live on Friday, Feb. 19.

The website will be easier to navigate and offers a host of information and tools for both voters and candidates to quickly and easily find election information they seek. Access to election results, learning to register to vote, viewing sample ballots, and finding a form to request an absentee ballot is now simplified.
