Private family services and interment will be later when all family can be present.

Kluesner Sanitation, LLC has recently distributed new recycling bins to residents whose services are billed through the City of Guttenberg. The new vessels offer community members a larger container with a lid. This updated version will hold more recyclables and keep paper products dry and securely contained in the bin on rainy, windy days.

Historic limestone structure receives renovations

A hardware store has occupied the stone building at the corner of South River Park Drive and Herder Street in downtown Guttenberg since its construction in 1856.  The historic, limestone structure was constructed by Charles Falkenheiner and Bro., and intended for both commercial and single-family dwelling.

Council hears project updates, lowers garbage fees

At its regular monthly meeting on Dec. 14,  the Guttenberg city council heard updates on major projects, reduced garbage fees, and gave the green light to a proposed pickleball court.

Mayor Bill Frommelt called the meeting to order with councilmembers Austin Greve, Fred Schaub, Virginia Saeugling, Jane Parker and Mick Pierce in attendance. Also on hand were City Manager Denise Schneider and City Attorney Michael Schuster.

Karen Kay Kriesler, 75, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

There will be a private family service and inurnment.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Karen was born on April 30, 1945, in Guttenberg, the daughter of Elmer and Alverta (Harbaugh) Knudtson.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will be a private family Mass and burial at St. Boniface in New Vienna.

Arnold Holthaus

Arnold Holthaus, 86, of Colesburg,  passed away on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020. After months of failing health, he died peacefully at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood.

Public visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 17, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood. Masks are required.

A private family service will be held at the funeral home.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
