Charles “Chuck” E. Peterman

Charles “Chuck” Eugene Peterman, 71, of Elkader, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the Guttenberg Hospital.

A private family Mass was held, conducted by Rev. John Haugen.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Leonard Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader assisted the family.

Lillian Handke

Lillian Handke, 93, departed peacefully from this earth at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood on Sunday, July 26, 2020, very much enveloped at the time of her passing by the immeasurable love of her large and devoted family.

A private funeral service was held at the City Cemetery in Guttenberg on July 30. She was laid to rest beside her husband.

The Me I want to Be, LLC, is located in the former Juanita’s Folly location at 3 Goethe Street, Guttenberg. Diane Baumgartner, a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (Individual) opened her new business on July 6, 2020. She will be offering mental health therapy services via Telehealth until further notice. Eventually she plans to see clients in her office.

Guttenberg's annual Celebrate Guttenberg promotion is set to take place this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7 and Aug. 8. Due to the pandemic, the number of events has been scaled back from previous years by the Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce.

David Leuser

David Leuser of Guttenberg, formerly of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away peacefully on July 16, 2020, at Ennoble Nursing and Rehabilitation in Dubuque, where he was cared for by their caring and compassionate nurses and staff. 

At his request, cremation and a private family memorial is planned for David.

Renowned barber/stylist and master storyteller Roger Zach, AKA Mr. Rogers, is officially retired. The 82- year-old has stepped away from the barber chair and set down the scissors that he joyously and passionately used to make a living for most of his adult life. 

"It has not been an easy decision," said Zach, owner of Mr. Roger’s Hair Salon in Guttenberg, "but I finally decided to retire."

School announces plans for Aug. 24 return to classes

Clayton Ridge Community School has announced its plans for the return to classes on Aug. 24. 

"At this time we are planning to begin the school year with all students face-to-face," said Superintendent Shane Wahls in a letter to parents. "We will have a number of mitigation procedures in place."

Irene Esther Rodas Peake, 99, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor.

Due to Coronavirus concerns, there will be a private family graveside service and interment.
