Mark T. Schmidt

Mark Thomas Schmidt, a gentlemen, a scholar, and for many, a state of mind. He was called onward to the universe on May 18, 2022, where he was last known to be in the mountains and forest that he loved most. Mark showed up fashionably early on May 14, 1989. It was Mother’s Day and was thus declared the greatest Mother’s Day gift to his parents, Mary and Tom Schmidt, until the anesthesia wore off. Much to the chagrin of his two older brothers, who quickly realized none of their gifts could top his entrance into the world.

Kids’ excitement drives Hoefer in 23 years of pedal tractor pulls

Pam Hoefer (left) has been operating Pam’s Pedal Tractor Pulls at countless community events for 23 years. She’s done as many as 15 pulls in one season, including over 10 this year. Pictured here is the Clayton County Fair. (Photos by Audrey Posten)

Hoefer has six pedal tractors equipped for pulls, all in different sizes and colors. “I like playing with tractors and making stuff,” she said. “I get an idea: ‘We need a green tractor, we need a red tractor.’ Then we have a yellow tractor and a blue tractor, we have John Deere. We try to get as many varieties in, and we’ll take at least four tractors to a pull.”
