Robert 'Bob' Erdenberger

Robert “Bob” Earl Erdenberger, 91, of Prairie du Chien, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien.  

Robert Earl was born May 20, 1928, to Elmer and Mildred (Zabel) Erdenberger in Prairie du Chien.  

He graduated high school from Prairie du Chien.  Robert proudly joined and served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.  Bob was united in marriage with Mercedes Koecke in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1951.  They later divorced.  Bob worked for National Decorated Metal for 18 years in Prairie du Chien and at Johnson Gas and Appliance Company as a painter.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and V.F.W. in Prairie du Chien.  Bob enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, being outdoors and, in his younger years, he enjoyed roller skating.  He was a CB and Ham Radio Operator.

Betty L. Crusan

Betty L. Crusan, 95, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Aug. 19, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. She was born Aug. 22, 1923 in Seneca, the daughter of Charles and Sadie (Comstock) McCullick. She married Walter Crusan on June 20, 1942 in Crawford County. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1981. 

Betty worked for Efco Plastics in DeForest, Wis., all the way into her 80s. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She is survived by her children, Marcia (Sam) Baker and David Crusan, her sister Mavis Jeidy, eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Jerry Crusan, her sisters, Naomi and Delores, and her brothers, Fay, Max, Ivan, Arnold and Junior, along with one grandchild.

Mary Ann (McNamara) Mellem

Mary Ann (McNamara) Mellem, 62, passed away peacefully on Aug. 12, 2019.  

Mary Ann married Roger Mellem on Nov. 12, 1974, and they later divorced after 37 years. She very much enjoyed her cross-stitch projects, cooking amazing food for her family and friends and catching every game to root on her beloved Green Bay Packers.  

Mary Ann is survived by her five children, Lucas (Shanon), Jamie (Natalie), Mollie (Jon), Maggie (Jon) Payne, and Cassandra; nine grandchildren; sisters, Joan Kohlhaas, Patsy McGuire and Rita Crowley.  

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Ellen McNamara, of Ferryville; also Robert Anderson, Laurie Anderson, Charles Kohlhaas and John Crowley.

Roger B. Thomas

Roger B. Thomas, 45, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Friday, August 16, at Crossing Rivers Health Care following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 8, 1973 in Prairie du Chien, the son of Peter and Marijane (Spiker) Thomas.

Roger graduated from Waukesha South High school in 1992 and later from the Writer’s Digest School in 2004. He became a published author in 2016 after writing “Fear of the Dark.” Roger was very loving, caring, helpful and intellectual. He enjoyed filmology, writing, reading, gaming, learning and passing on his knowledge to younger generations.

He is survived by his mother Marijane Thomas; his brothers, Peter Thomas Jr., Dale Thomas and Michael (Heather) Thomas; nieces and nephews, William, Christian, Cassondra, Dakota and Damien.

Lester Calvin Cauffman Jr.

Lester Calvin Cauffman, Jr., 72, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin died Thursday, August 15, 2019 at his home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was born January 25, 1947 to Lester and Emily (Leighton) Cauffman in Mount Hope. He attended country school in Mt. Hope, graduated from Fennimore High School and earned his two-year butcher degree at Southwest Technical College. Lester proudly joined and served in the United States Navy.

Lester was united in marriage with Kathy Hill on August 8, 1970. Four children were born to this union. Throughout the years, Lester farmed, did logging, worked for Cabela’s over 15 years in packing and receiving and was a meat cutter for Piggly Wiggly. He loved the Rendezvous and was a member of Big River Long Rifles.

Sandra Rohde

Sandra Rohde, 72, of Farmersburg, Iowa died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at her home in Monona, Iowa. Sandra was born June 13, 1947 in Bartholomew County in Columbus, Indiana to George Oscar and Marguerite Pauline (Hughes) Perkins. She graduated from Curlew High School, Curlew, Washington in 1965 and attended Western Washington State College. Sandra “Sandi” continued her career as a bookkeeper.

Wayne 'Pat' Benoy

Wayne “Pat” Benoy, 77, of Prairie du Chien, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019. at Crossing Rivers Health, Prairie du Chien.

Wayne Patrick was born March 14, 1942, to Clarence and Ella Rose (Fisher) Benoy in Prairie du Chien. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. Wayne graduated from Prairie High School in 1960. Pat was united in marriage with Linda (Weber) Wheeler on June 16, 1973, in Janesville. They later divorced. Pat worked as a welder and electrician for Beloit Corp. in Beloit, and Voith Corp. in Appleton. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Janesville and Eagles Club in Prairie du Chien. Pat loved family get-togethers and spending time with his grandkids, who called him Grandpa “Wonderful.” He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports, including the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. Pat spent the winters in Florida.

Mary E. Walker

Mary E. Walker, 83, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health. 

She was born July 31, 1936, in Lancaster, the daughter of Lloyd and Iola (Stark) Walker. Mary worked in bookkeeping for Prairie City Bank in Bloomington, and later for the branch in Prairie du Chien. 

She is survived by her brother Delbert (Evelyn) Walker, of Prairie du Chien; her sister Maxine (William) Sender, of Ft. Have, Ariz. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Norton (Ann) Walker; and a niece, April Schmitz.

According to Mary’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. An inurnment will be in the Dodge Cemetery in Glen Haven.

Ronald B. Shinko

Ronald B. Shinko, 76, of Platteville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019. 

Ron was born on Sept. 23, 1942, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Thomas and Lola Mae (Bright) Shinko. 

Ron was a 1961 graduate of Seneca High School, where he loved playing basketball for the Seneca Indians. Ron worked as a cheese maker in Seneca and Mt. Sterling during his high school years. After graduation, he worked at American Motors in Kenosha until the plant closed. He was then employed at AO Smith in Milwaukee, which later became Tower Automotive. He was a hard worker who put in many hours of overtime, was proud of his job, and always gave his best.
