Mildred M. Lessard

Mildred M. Lessard, 85, of Janesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Agrace Hospice in Janesville.  

She was born in Prairie du Chien on Sept. 17, 1933, the daughter of Thomas and Orpha Check. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School and went on to marry her loving husband of 48 years, Walter A. Lessard on July 7, 1952. Walter and Mildred have been Janesville residents since 1959, and also faith members of St. William Catholic Church. Mildred loved spending her winters in Florida with Walter, and they even enjoyed fishing together. She was talented in quilting and ceramics, and donated quilts to the Veterans at the Milwaukee Hospital. She was a loving and devoted grandma and great-grandma, and always cherished her time with family.

Beth Abel

Beth took orders from no one. Except God. Her physical work here is done and her journey as an angel watching over us has begun.

Beth Abel, 35, of Marquette, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. Beth was born on Sept. 20, 1983, to Roger and Janette (Brown) Carlson in Prairie du Chien. She graduated from MFL-MarMac in Monona, Iowa, in 2002.

Beth received her AAS in accounting from NICC Calmar in 2004, and in September of 2005, Beth began her career at Peoples State Bank, where she held many positions including her last as a bookkeeper in the operations department at the main office. It wasn’t long before her co-workers knew Beth was family.

Thomas Paul Lechnir

Thomas Paul Lechnir passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the age of 74 and went to be with his Lord and Savior. 

Thomas was born in Prairie du Chien, on Friday Oct. 13, 1944, to Thomas Raymond and Jean Barnhart (Hahn) Lechnir. 

On Oct. 18, 1969 Tom married the love of his life, Nyleen (Suhr). Tom, you were my strength and love, which held our family together. Thank you.

Robert W. Thompson

Robert W. Thompson, 78, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Bland Bekkedal Hospice Center in Viroqua.

He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Mary, of 39 years; two daughters, Pamela Porch, Texas, and Shannon Roberts, Iowa, and son, Jeff Thompson, Texas; sister, Linda (Tom) Henrich, Florida; and sisters-in-law, Lorna Harper, Texas, and Carol Marx, Wisconsin. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Nic, Alex (Hayley) and Morgan Roberts, four great-grandchildren, nephews, a niece, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 11, at the Casino Queen Sevens Lounge, in Marquette, Iowa, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be served. All family and friends are welcome.

Margaret L. Hazen

Margaret L. Hazen, 63, of Wauzeka, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019, at her home following an extended illness.  

She was born June 20, 1955, in Viroqua, the daughter of Jess and Wilma (Lewis) Salmon.  She was confirmed in 1974 and baptized in the Mississippi River.  

Marge lived in Bridgeport, Wauzeka and Prairie du Chien; Nashville, Tenn.; Bowling Green, Ky.; Madison, and then moved back home to rural Crawford County.  She worked as a high school janitor, an insurance agent, a hotel manager, a substance abuse counselor and State of Wisconsin consultant.  She was a proud and grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1987.

She is survived by her brother, Bruce (Deb) Salmon, of Wauzeka; and “best friend and true sister” Lisa Sowieja, of Madison.

Carolyn M. Crubel

Carolyn M. Crubel, 85, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. 

She was born Feb. 1, 1934, the daughter of Leroy and Marie (Hampton) Esser. 

Carolyn graduated from Bloomington High School. On April 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to Harold P. Crubel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven. Together, they farmed in Patch Grove Township. Carolyn was a faithful member and past president of the Christian Mothers, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and baking. She wrote poetry and had a great sense of humor when it came to her grandchildren.

Richard Rudnik

Richard Rudnik, 82, died suddenly on March 8, 2019. 

He was born to Ted and Francis Rudnik on Nov. 17, 1937. Richard worked at American Plumbing in Winona, and later moved to Prairie du Chien, Wis. He graduated from Cotter High School.

Richard is survived by his sister, Patricia Lehnertz, Speltz Assisted Living, Lewiston; brothers, William Rudnik and Thomas Rudnik, both of Winona; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; grandparents; brother, James; and infant sister, Mary Jo.

His wish was to be cremated and buried next to his wife.
