Prairie boys beat Barneveld

The Hawks boys basketball team returned home with an afternoon affair against Barneveld on Saturday, Jan. 26. Barneveld came in winning seven games in a row and the Hawks winning the past five games.


Hawkettes advance to state

The Prairie du Chien High School Hawkettes traveled to Watertown, Wis., for the WACPC Regional Dance Competition on Saturday, Jan. 26. They performed in the D5 Pom Division and the D3 Kick Division. The team placed fifth in Pom and first in Kick. The first-place finish makes them the Regional Champions and advances them to state. The State Dance Competition is Saturday, Feb. 2 in La Crosse. “We’d love to see some familiar faces in the crowd cheering us on!” said Head Coach Bobbi Gofus. The River Ridge-Cassville wrestling team hosted Pecatonica-Argyle on Jan. 17. It was Parents’ and Senior Night.

Pecatonica-Argyle won the dual meet by a score of 45-17.

At 132, there was a double forfeit.


Hawkettes do well at Sparta

Look forward to regionals

The Prairie du Chien High School Hawkettes competed at a dance competition in Sparta on Saturday, Jan. 19. 

The team brought home two, first-place trophies and a second-place trophy. They placed first in the Jazz and Kick categories and second in the Pom category.

Wauzeka-Steuben steadily pulled away from host Seneca to win a Ridge and Valley boys basketball game, 68-50, Thursday night.

Wauzeka-Steuben scored on a lay-up just before the halftime buzzer to take a 33-21 lead. Wauzeka-Steuben outscored Seneca 35-29 in the second half.

Carter Lomas poured in a game-high 24 points to pace the Hornets. Jake Reichmann netted 20 and Gavin Ralph scored 13.


PdC wrestlers win SPASH Duals

On Saturday, Jan. 12, the PDC grapplers traveled to Stevens Point for the SPASH Duals. These duals are made up of two, five-team pools. A team wrestles all teams in their pool to determine their placement match. A year ago, PDC was crowned champs, so they were looking for the repeat. 

PDC would win their pool by the following: PDC 53 - DC Everest 21, PDC 77 - SPASH JV 6, PDC 38 - Oconto Falls 36, PDC 78 - Sussex Hamilton 0.

Prairie du Chien overwhelmed visiting Richland Center 72-42 in a girls basketball game in the SWC Friday night. 

The Lady Blackhawks built a 45-22 lead by halftime en route to the victory, their 14th in a row.

Lily Krahn netted 20 points to help lead the Lady Hawks. Macey Banasik scored 15 and Ella Hager added 13. Krahn had four 3-point baskets and Banasik had three.

Prairie du Chien held its first varsity event in the new fieldhouse at the high school Monday night as the Prairie du Chien-Fennimore gymnastics team hosted Platteville-Belmont-Lancaster for the first home meet of the season.

The gymnasts will next host River Valley on Senior Night on Jan. 14.

Blackhawk wrestlers take down Hornets

Junior Isaac Avery has a tight lock en route to a first-period fall against his Richland Center opponent. The fifth-ranked Blackhawks cruised to a 60-12 victory.


Another SWC foe, another win. The beat continues for the fifth-ranked PdC grapplers as they dismantled Richland Center 60-12 on Thursday evening in front of a raucous bunch of PdC wrestling faithful. Prior to the meet, Traeton Saint and Reid Koenig were presented plaques detailing their 100 career wins. Following that, a great number of local wrestling sponsors were recognized and thanked for their generosity in helping the team achieve their goals and be able to travel throughout the state. Brian and Jeananne Dillman were also recognized and thanked, as they have very generously purchased a new competition mat for the wrestling team.
