Harold L. Trehey, 92, of Monona, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, at the Garden View Assisted Apartments in Monona. 

He was born March 1, 1923 to John and Nina (Geisler) Trehey. Harold graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1941. He began college at UW Platteville, but his studies were interrupted by World War II and he joined the Marine Corps. He was wounded in 1945 in Okinawa, Japan and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged in May, 1947 and married Veronica Kane on July 26, 1947. He, along with Veronica, co-owned the Kane’s IGA store in Seneca. He also worked as the Seneca Postmaster. His family moved to Mount Horeb, in 1974, where he continued his career as the Postmaster until his retirement in 1987. He and Veronica retired in Prairie du Chien, for many years. Upon Veronica’s death in January 2005, Harold moved to Garden View Assisted Living Apartments in Monona. Harold enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved Wisconsin Badgers. He spent his time playing cards, reading and spending time with friends. His most treasured time was with his family. 

He is survived by his children, Greg (Chere) Trehey of Arnold, Md., Lisa (Kevin) Seitz of Monona, daughter-in-law Beth Trehey of Washington DC; grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer), Michael, Joseph, Aimee, Matthew, Andrew, David; and his brother Gordon (Judy) Trehey of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his siblings, John, Bernard, Bernice and Don; one son, Kevin and a granddaughter, Marie. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monona, with Reverend Nils Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien, where military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor guard. Friends may call Tuesday, April 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, where there will be wake scripture at 7 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday, April 22, from 9:30 until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
