Donna Walters, 70, of McGregor, Iowa died Saturday, Aug. 1, at Crossing Rivers Health Center in Prairie du Chien. 

MaDonna Mae, the daughter of Clarence and Lucille (Laufer) Davis, was born Nov. 23, 1944 in McGregor, Iowa. She attended grade school in a country school house outside of McGregor and graduated from Mar Mac High School in 1962. 

Donna was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Burton I. Walters, Jr., on April 6, 1963 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. To this union, two children were born, Burton I. Walters III and Terri (Walters) Wall. Donna was a school cook for the Mar Mac Schools for twenty-five years.

Donna dedicated her life to giving for others and she loved children. She was a den leader for the Boy Scouts of America for thirteen years. She volunteered for the Mar Mac Ambulance for over forty years and was an honorary member. She was among the first group of volunteers to obtain her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification. During her forty plus years, she also volunteered for the Prairie du Chien EMS. Many times she would help when there was a fire or emergency and would often times go without sleep making sandwiches and coffee for the fire department. There were a few times when she would open her home to those who had been burned out of their house.

Donna loved sewing and cooking, and usually made way too much food. She always enjoyed children and would often reminisce with stories of the many school children she watched grow up.

Donna is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Burton I. Walters, Jr. of McGregor; her son, Burton I. Walters III of McGregor; and her daughter, Terri (Robert) Wall of McGregor; two grandchildren, Kayla (Dillon) Thompson of McGregor and Curtis Wall of McGregor; one great grandchild, Allyssa Thompson; one brother, Kenneth (LuAnn) Davis of McGregor; and one sister, Alice Montgomery of Monona.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sharon Davis.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 4 to7 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa with a one hour visitation before services at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at First Congregational Church, McGregor, Iowa with Rev. William Gentry as the Officiant.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor, Iowa.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
