John R. Dickson, 59, of Eastman died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 24, at his home. 

He was born April 25, 1956 in Berwyn, Ill. the son of Robert and Beverly (Dade) Meeker. He served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. John worked as a lock operator for the Corps of Engineers at Lock and Dam No. 9 in Lynxville, for the past 30 years. He was an avid pet owner and enjoyed hunting and riding his motorcycle. 

He is survived by his sisters, Linda (William) Fincher of Ellenton, Fla. and Paula of Garnavillo, Iowa; his stepfather Robert Dickson of Eastman; and a stepson Jake Shedivy of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson Clint Shedivy

A celebration of John’s life will be Thursday, Oct. 1, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. A private family inurnment will be later in the Dickson Ridge Cemetery in Lynxville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
