Dorothy M. Rolph, 96, of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born July 17, 1919 in New Albin, Iowa the daughter of Alexander and Magdalena (Kroack) Woods. She married Francis “Ding” Smith in 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1959. Dorothy worked at Kaber’s Restaurant and later Farrell’s Drug Store in Prairie du Chien before raising her family. She later married Boyd Rolph in 1965, who later preceded her in death in 1995. She was an excellent cook and an avid walker. 

She is survived by her daughters, Patty (Claude) Miller of Janesville, Sharon (Gene) Nolan of Rochester, Minn., Peggy (Tom) Schreck of Germantown, and Lori (Dave) Hemmer of Prairie du Chien; her sons, Larry Smith of Prairie du Chien and Tom Smith of Highland; her sisters, Lauretta Rod of Prairie du Chien and Angie (Bob) Halverson of Sparta; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; an infant daughter Marilyn; and two sisters, Arvella Bowlen and Mary Patterson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prairie Catholic Schools. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
