 David Fowler Todd, 85, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, peacefully surrounded by his family at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse. 

Dave graduated from Graveraet High School in Marquette, Mich. in 1948. He attended Northern MI University and graduated with a major in music and minor in biology in 1952. He worked in Florence, Wis. for one year as band director, and then served in the US Army for 2 years in Korea.

Upon his return from service, Dave taught in Bloomington, from 1956 to 1959. While there, he met his future wife, Ruth (Daugherty). They were married on Aug. 3, 1957. 

In 1959 he and Ruth opened a retail clothing business downtown called “The Todd Shop,” which they operated until 1979.

Dave was the junior high and senior high music director from 1962 to 1992. While teaching, he received his Masters degree from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago. He retired in 1992. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and served as the choir director and on the church council, was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, and was a past president of the Lions Club. His favorite activities included hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with family and relatives in the U.P. 

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ruth; daughters Renee (Jan Thomas), Leigh Huber (John), Janice Murray (Jim); and son David; grandchildren Taylor, Sydney and Cole Huber, Killian and Brogan Murray; and his sister Clara Kaminen. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Olive Todd; brother Bill; and sister Elry. 

Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rev. Joe Irvin officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Sunday, Nov. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Assn.
