Anthony “Tony” F. Stankus, 78, of Soldiers Grove passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse.

Tony was born April 3, 1937 on the home farm in Vineyard Coulee, Prairie du Chien to Stanley and Sophia (Jelinek) Stankus. He worked for the Crawford County Highway Department and was a deputy for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department for three decades. While working two jobs, his passion was farming and he continued to do so throughout his life. He loved spending time with his friends and family. Tony had a great love for animals and the outdoors. There wasn’t a stray that he would turn away and he rehabilitated many, wild or tame. He enjoyed working on his tractors and other machinery and working in his garden. His zucchini is well known in area businesses and hospitals as he always had plenty to share and made sure everyone had some.

Tony is survived by his children, Michael (Dawn) Stankus of Edgerton, Kim (Mike) Wendtland of Milton, Kathy Stankus of Black River Falls, and Tanya (Jake) Forkash of Soldiers Grove; one brother, Joseph (Pat) Stankus of Eastman; seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Steven, Aaron, Chris, Gavin, Nyah, and Roman; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Thomas; and two brothers, Timothy and Stanley.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 5:30 prayer service at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, Hwy 131 and Sunset Ridge in Gays Mills. Online condolences may be offered at www.VossFH.com

The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Gays Mills is serving the family.

Blessed be our memory of Anthony “Tony” Stankus.
