Charles Clyde ”Chuck” Kelly, 81, of Elkader, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born on June 2, 1934, in Littleport, the son of Gaye and Lois (Morarend) Kelly. Charles attended country school near Waterville and high school in Elkader. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

On June 14, 1958, Charles was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Jaster in Elkader. Two children were born to this union. The family lived in Cedar Rapids from 1958 to 1999. Charles worked for Nissen-Universal as a machinist and foreman, retiring in the mid 1990s. They then returned to rural Elkader.  

Charles was a lifetime member of the Marion American Legion Post #298. He loved to dance, shoot pool, play cards, and mushroom hunt. Charles also enjoyed watching professional wrestling on television, but most of all he cherished his time with family and friends.

Survivors include his two children, Mike (Lori) Kelly of Cedar Rapids and Rhonda (Larry) Rozinek of Robins; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Thein of Alabama; his sweetheart and special friend, Pat Lange, and her family of Elkader; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Linda) Jaster of Elkader; four sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene Kelly, in 2007; three sisters, Luella, Katie, and Zelpha; and four brothers Wyvil “Butch,” Harland “Buck,” Alto, and Gerald.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, December 18, 2015, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point. Pastor Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiated. Interment with military honors was at Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point, with the Iowa Honor Guard and Strawberry Point American Legion participating.

There was a visitation from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa.  Friends also called beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday.
