Learn about America's national bird at the Marina Visitor Center in Guttenberg on Saturday, Feb. 13. An ice carving demonstration by carver Matt Meadows will take place starting at 11a.m. Stay warm inside the Marina Center, located at 715 S. River Park Drive, and watch as a block of ice is transformed into an eagle!

Warm up with the chili cook-off from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. Taste a variety of chili, vote for your favorite, and enjoy hot chocolate and treats. Due to overwhelming response to last year’s call for entries, the 2016 cook-off will accept the first eight entries. Individuals may contact Emily Moser at 563-252-2323 to enter the cook-off. Deadline to enter is Feb. 10.

The RARE Group (Raptor Advocacy, Rehabilitation, and Education) of Iowa City will give a presentation featuring live raptors and lots of interesting information at 2:30 p.m. Coloring wildlife pictures, a Siberian Scavenger Hunt, and other activities will be available for kids to enjoy.

The Marina Visitor Center has excellent views of the river and binoculars will be available to help you catch a glimpse of the magnificent Bald Eagles that can often be seen fishing south of Lock and Dam 10. There are spotting scopes along Guttenberg's river walk to view eagles all weekend.

For more information, contact Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce at 252-2323.
