Lela "June" Horstman (nee Nelson) passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

June was born to Lloyd and Lucy Nelson (nee Schmidt) in St. Olaf on Nov. 7, 1925. She was baptized Jan. 14, 1926, at Norway Lutheran Church. She was confirmed May 28, 1939, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elkader. June was educated in the Elkader public school system, graduating from Elkader High School in 1943.

June and Loraine "Larry" Horstman of Guttenberg were married on Jan. 11, 1946, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elkader. Three daughters were born to the union, Connie, Cathy, and Cindy. June and Larry operated Horstman's Grill and 66 Service along Highway 52 in Guttenberg for 22 years. June was later employed at the Utah Company and Products Unlimited, from which she retired in 1989.

June enjoyed working in the yard, traveling, baking pies, reading, spending time with their German Shepherds, and visiting with family and friends. She also volunteered at St. John's Lutheran Church and the Guttenberg Meal Site. June's family and friends will remember her for her generosity, caring personality, and warm smile.

June is survived by daughters Connie Horstman (Kenneth McCandless) of Seattle, Wash., Cathy Spicer (Joe Hurson) also of Seattle, and Cindy Horstman of Cedar Rapids; sister Arleen Thurn of Elkader; sisters-in-law Yvonne Nelson of Elkader and Evelyn Moser of Rock Island Ill.; brother-in-law Edward Lundt of Rockford, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Dorothy Schmidt; and two brothers, Clifford (Kate) Nelson and Leighton Nelson.
