Sandra M. Kozelka, 68, of West Union, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 9 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. 

She was born May 31, 1947 in Merrill, Wis. the daughter of Erava and Ruth (Martell) Karau. She graduated from Steven’s Point High School in 1965. She married Joseph Kozelka on June 23, 1971 in Merrill. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2008. She worked as a homemaker for many years, and later at Wal-Mart, Hardees, and MPC in Prairie du Chien. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien, and also very active at the Opportunity Center. She always enjoyed working on crossword and hidden word puzzles, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was strong-willed, highly active, and outgoing her whole life. 

She is survived by her daughters, Denise (Don) Reinhart of Elgin, Iowa, and Debie (Eric) Knapp of Prairie du Chien; her brothers Mike Karau, Ray (Gretel) Karau, and Jim Johnston; sister-in-law Barbara Johnston; three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Charlie Johnston and Barry Karau.

A memorial service will be Monday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien with Rev. Andy Doll officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday, March 21, from 9 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
