Jo Ann Hermsen, 64, of Woodstock, Ga., passed away Thursday, April 14, in Woodstock. 

She was born April 16, 1951 in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Ivan and Gloria Schmidt. She married Philip Hermsen on Dec. 16, 1972 at St. John’s church in Patch Grove. She was a member of the Auburn Civitan Club, a non-profit organization that works with children with disabilities, in Auburn, Ala. for many years where she also served as treasurer during that time. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Auburn. In her spare time, she enjoyed working on home projects, re-modeling homes, and helping others.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Hermsen of Woodstock; son Kirk Hermsen of Canton, Ga.; daughter Kari (Eric) Astor of Roswell, Ga.; mother Gloria Schmidt of Prairie du Chien; brothers Jerry (Teresa) Schmidt of Patch Grove and Gary (Marie) Schmidt  of Thomasville, Ga.; sisters-in-law Arlene Schmidt, Marjorie Jaynes, Jen (wife of Ambrose) Hermsen, all of Prairie du Chien, Joanne (Glen) Ward, of Onalaska, Eileen (wife of Walter) Hermsen of Prairie du Chien, Marguerite (Roland) Clinton of McGregor, Iowa, Kathleen (Mike) Leard of Prairie du Chien, Carolyn Bidwell of Fort Collins, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Ivan Schmidt of Prairie du Chien; her mother Helen Hermsen of Prairie du Chien; brothers-in-law Ambrose Hermsen and James Hermsen both of Bloomington, Walter Hermsen of Prairie du Chien; Leonard Schmidt (husband of Arlene) and Raymond Jaynes (husband of Marjorie) both of Prairie du Chien; and several aunts and uncles

A memorial service will be Wednesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Barb Cook officiating with inurnment in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 20 from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
