Ryan James Cowell, 32, of Claremont, died Saturday, May 7, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. The Donate Life flag was flown at St. Mary’s on Monday in memory of Ryan who gave the gift of life by being an organ donor.

Ryan was born Dec. 27, 1983 in Prairie du Chien, the son of Lisa Hein and Jeff Cowell. They moved to Owatonna where Ryan attended Triton School in Dodge Center. He worked for the 49ers and laborer’s union working as a lift operator and tender. He was currently employed at Northland. Ryan was also a volunteer fireman and past chief of the Claremont Fire Department.

Ryan’s greatest gift and love is his daughter, Eva. Ryan was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed bow hunting, duck hunting, bear hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and cat fishing. He had a passion for his Harley which he called his “throttle therapy.” Ryan recently reaffirmed his relationship with God with New Life Community in Owatonna.

He is survived by his daughter, Eva Cowell of Owatonna; father, Jeff (Billie) Cowell of Claremont; mother, Lisa Hein of Eastman; sisters, LaTricia (Jacob) Kaiser of Owatonna and Amy Dearborn of Claremont; nephews, Parker Prins, Brody Kaiser and on the way, Brantley Kaiser; niece, Lily Dearborn; grandmothers, Severna Cowell of McGregor, Iowa, Carol (Dave) Armoto of Volga, Iowa, and Joi Cowell of McGregor; grandfather, Richard Hein of Blooming Prairie; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jim Cowell and grandmother, Barbara Dennler.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna on Wednesday, May 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna with Pastor Joel Stauffer officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Claremont, Minn.
