James A. Sprosty, 65, of Batavia, passed away early Tuesday, May 10, at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1951, in Prairie du Chien, a son of the late Bernard and Leone (Nolan) Sprosty. He attended Seneca Grade School and graduated from Seneca High School in 1969. 

James served in the United States Army National Guard. On Dec. 14, 1984 he married Susan Adamczewski at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Batavia. The couple has resided in Batavia since their marriage. James was self-employed at his construction company and owned/operated Sprosty Carter Construction Company in Batavia for over 25 years.

He was a member at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Batavia and was very active in the Church. He was a former president of the church council for many years and also served as an usher for many years. He was also in charge of the current remodeling project at church. 

He was a member of the Batavia Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as president and a member of the Batavia First Responders for over 25 years. He also served on the Batavia Planning Commission for many years. James enjoyed deer hunting and did not have any rusty ammo. He also enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, especially gardening.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Susan of Batavia; one daughter Jenny (Marty) Cook of Prairie du Chien; one son Paul Zwick of West Bend; five grandchildren John, Jessica, Evan, Casandra and Riley; three sisters Lucy Kosak of Prairie du Chien, Bernie (Mark) Andersen of Wyoming and Barb (Mike) Check of Prairie du Chien; one brother Jerry (Cindy) Sprosty of Vernal, Utah; one brother-in-law Ronald Adamczewski of Cascade; four sisters-in-law Cindy (Russell) Dalske of Fond du Lac, Pam (Lee) Race of Lena, Donna Sandberg of Adell and Karen Sprosty of Florida; his business partner and very special friend Allan (Pam) Carter of West Bend.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Mike and Francis; one sister Marilyn.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday afternoon May 15 at 4 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Batavia. Rev. Brian Krueger, Pastor of the Church, will officiate. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Sunday, May 15, from 2 p.m. until the time of services.

 In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jame’s name.
