Emma Mary Schroen, 87, formerly of Lancaster, and Long Neck, Del., passed away Wednesday, June 8, at Bluff Haven Assisted Living, Prairie du Chien.

Mary was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Baltimore, Md., daughter of William H. and Mary A. (Wingrove) Bloecher. She married Joseph Donald Schroen in Baltimore,on April 9, 1949. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2008.

She was affectionately called Mother Mary by Prairie du Chien friends as there were many Marys. She loved to play cards, do crafts and in later years to read and word search. She enjoyed playing bingo. Her favorite past time was going for rides to look at God’s creatures and scenery.

Surviving is a daughter, Linda D. (Mike M.) Schroen Christensen, of Prairie du Chien; a son, Joseph E. (Mary De Sales) Schroen, of Bennington, Neb.; grandchildren, Lauren (Tim) Gilbertson, Lacy (Tim) Sebranek, Abrahm (Jennifer) Schroen, and Ian (Elizabeth) Schroen; great grandchildren, Caitlyn and Tristen Gilbertson, Mackenzie, Logan, Tyler, Athena Sebranek, Daphine and Phoebe Schroen; and sisters, Wilma Bem and Lee Martini.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Christine.

Services will be announced at a later date. Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1640 Main St. is assisting the family.
