Monona Council updated on sanitary sewer project

Monona’s phase II sanitary sewer improvements will be completed by Oct. 2, according to Marc Ruden, with IIW, Inc., who spoke before the Monona Council at its July 18 meeting.

The project consists of two contracts, one for collection system rehabilitation and another for lift station and waste water treatment facility improvements.

Some pipe work, as well as some work at the wastewater plant, is anticipated to be completed by Portzen Construction as early as the end of next week.

“That leaves the three lift stations to be done,” said Ruden, noting that work on those will likely begin in early August. Then, an electrician should be able to come in and finish the work prior to Oct. 2.

Collection system rehabilitation is the lion’s share of the project, Ruden said. To date, all lines have been cleaned and televised, he stated. However, several issues have developed with some of the manholes, with some too narrow for equipment to get through, while others will prevent the sewer from being lined. Ruden said he will work with the city on possible options.

Automatic door opener

The council approved installing an automatic door opener at the front entrance of city hall in order to improve handicap accessibility. The door opener comes from Decorah Mobile Glass, at a cost of $1,936.

Street maintenance

The council approved Prairie Road Builders, with a bid of $21,000, to perform chip sealing on city streets. For around $2,600, Kluesner Construction will complete slurry patching.
