Helen L. Stade, 95, of Marquette, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Aug. 5, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. 

Helen was born on March 6, 1921, rural Sny Magill, McGregor, Iowa, to Elmer and Leona (Hill) Hansen and attended country school.

She was united in marriage to Almore Stade, whom she had many wonderful years spending time with. Helen worked at 3M in Prairie du Chien, for many years until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor. While a member, she was involved in Catholic Daughters, St. Mary’s Guild and bingo. She also served on the Mar-Mac Rescue Squad Board and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed bowling, flowers, camping and spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Roger Wankerl, Marquette; two granddaughters, Barbara Norris, Sarona, Wis., Lisa (Jeff) White, Abilene, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Ryann and Payton Norris and one sister, Mary Ellen Shaw, Prairie du Chien.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Leona Hansen; her husband, Almore Stade; three brothers, Alfred, Earl and Merle Hansen and two sisters in infancy.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 4 p.m. rosary at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Friday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at St. Mary Catholic Church, McGregor, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Knipper as the Celebrant.
