Gene Leslie Patrick
Gene Leslie Patrick, 90, of Guttenberg, IA, died Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born on October 30, 1925, the son of Leslie and Bertha (Hyde) Patrick in rural Osterdock.
Gene grew up in the Osterdock area where he worked on the farm. Gene was saved on December 6, 1942, baptized in Clayton, and received into fellowship with the Garnavillo Assembly. On November 18, 1947, Gene was united in marriage with Vera Minger. On January 13, 1954, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent 18 months in Korea. While in the service, Gene received his GED along with an honorable discharge on November 22, 1955. After returning home, Gene worked for John Deere in Dubuque for 27 years and retired on September 1, 1987.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Peggy Minger and Opal Dean; nieces and nephews, Denny (Tami) Dean, Doug (Dawn) Dean, Barbara Dean, Elizabeth Dean, Jane (Bryce) Kreager, Bill (Sandra) Moser, and Susan (Steven) Rausch; and many great-nieces, nephews and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vera, sister and brother-in-law, Fern and Charles Moser, and brother-in-law, Alton Jack Minger.
Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, IA, where the family received friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2016. Funeral service was at the Gospel Hall, Garnavillo, IA, at 10 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2016. Interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery, Guttenberg, IA.
