Eileen Cecelia (Auer) Johanningmeier, 94, of McGregor, Iowa, died Friday, August 26, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Eileen was born on May 14, 1922, rural Garnavillo, Iowa, to Edward and Josephine (Heck) Auer. She attended Walnut Grove Country School and St. Patrick Catholic School in Monona, Iowa, through the eighth grade. Later in life, Eileen and her sisters went back to school and received their G.E.D. Diplomas.

Eileen was united in marriage to Lee Allen Johanningmeier on October 4, 1950, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa, by Rev. Luke Donlon. Five children were born to this union. Eileen and Lee Allen farmed together and raised their children on their farm east of Monona, Iowa, where she stayed busy canning, gardening and baking. She enjoyed playing cards, attending card parties, all types of music and dancing. It should be noted that on her 90th birthday, she danced until 2 a.m. in the morning. Eileen was a special person to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Survivors include her husband, Lee Allen Johanningmeier, McGregor; five children, John (Patricia) Johanningmeier, Belvidere, IL, Rick (Janice) Johanningmeier, Monona, Tara (Don) Lovell, Mexico, MO, Tami (Doug) McReynolds, Cedar Falls and Dan (Patty) Johanningmeier, Columbia, MO; eight grandchildren; Lana (Rick) Kraft, Lisa (Ryan) McNeal, Nicole (Milo) Bruene-Vukelich, Scott (Jessica) Johanningmeier, Jared Johanningmeier, Cameron McReynolds, Jeffrey Johanningmeier and Cassie (Cameron) Doolady; seven great-grandchildren; Britney and Blake Kraft, Keira McNeal, Hannah Bruene, Landon and Kellen Johanningmeier and Braxton Doolady; one sister, Angela Hogan, Postville; two brothers, Ralph Auer, Lansing and Edward (Peg) Auer, Winthrop and many other family members.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Josephine (Heck) Auer and her siblings, Leona Voss, George Auer, Korona “Kitty” Ohlert, Loras Auer, Gertrude “Gertie” Rose, Laura Auer, Mary Kathryn “Butch” Stein and Dorothy Auer. 

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa, with the Rev. Daniel Knipper as celebrant. Visitation was from 9-11 a.m. before mass on Tuesday at the church. Burial followed in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
