Ruth Margaret Seely passed away at Cerenity Care Center in St. Paul, Minn., on Jan. 15, after living courageously with dementia for more than a decade.

Ruth pursued successful careers, first in teaching, in Wisconsin, California and Illinois, and then in the field of employee benefits, in Chicago. She earned a Master’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago and resided there during most of her adult life.

Ruth cherished her childhood growing up on a farm near Wauzeka, even as she loved her life in Chicago. She was outgoing and always, even to the end, wanted to help others in their endeavors. She loved music, golf, the beauties of nature, every person she ever met, and the cats and dogs she cared for near the end of her life. Her spirit and kind intelligence transcended the dementia that gradually overtook her, as she brought pleasure to others with her smile, her hugs and her singing. She is deeply missed by those who loved her.

She leaves to mourn her passing her sisters, Ann Weldy and Mae Seely Sylvester; nieces/nephew Susan Weldy (Johnny Coronado), Lisa Weldy (Tony Mendes) and Mark (Linda) Weldy; grandnieces and nephew, Megan, Laura (Bert Ng) and Matt (Kelsea Peterman) Weldy; family friend, Susan Kimberly; and sister-in-law Sharon Seely, as well as other family members, friends and caregivers at Cerenity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Gunda; her brother, Dale; and brother-in-law Rodney Weldy.

A burial service open to family and friends will take place at Wauzeka Cemetery on Saturday, May 6, at 1 p.m.
