Lloyd Meier, 92, of Clermont died at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018.

Visitation was Monday, Jan. 29, at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont and before services at the church on Tuesday.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 30, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Clermont, conducted by Fr. Don Komboh.

Burial with Military Rites was at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Clermont.

Lloyd was born on Sept. 8, 1925, to Paul and Hattie (Heck) Meier in Guttenberg. He was privileged to attend and graduate from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Guttenberg in 1943. Lloyd was drafted into the United States Army, serving from November 1943 to April 1946 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. After returning from service, Lloyd worked in his dad’s store, P.J. Meier Square Deal Grocery, in Guttenberg for three years. He then started working at Security State Bank in Guttenberg. In June of 1950 he went to work at Farmers Savings Bank in Clermont, retiring in 1988 as Senior Vice President.

Lloyd was united in marriage with Adeline Wilken on Aug. 17, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. Three children were born to this union. He was very active in the American Legion at the local and state levels. Lloyd was a member of the Clermont Historical Society, Valley Community School Board for eighteen years, St. Peter Catholic Church Choir director for thirty-eight years, Knights of Columbus Committee Chairman in Clermont, National Association of Bank Auditors and Controllers, and the Clermont Historical Preservation Society. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing and singing. He loved spending time with his family. 

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Adeline Meier of Clermont; his three children, Kathryn (Tim) Schultz of Rice Lake, Wis., Lori (Terry) Wear of Fountain Valley, Calif. and Kevin (Barb) Meier of Indianola; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Paul) Colombo, Kent Schultz, Kurt Schultz, Lindsay Wear, Chris Wear, Mark (Alyssa) Meier, Nick Meier, Jake Meier and Haleigh Meier; four great-grandchildren, Elena and Atticus Colombo and Ryker and Paycen Schultz; one sister, Carla (Clark) Bolsinger of Guttenberg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Sr. Carol Meier, Lucille (Henry) Henkel, Paulette (Donald) Groth, Donald (Carlene) Meier and Laura Meier, who died in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for donation to several charities.
