Lowell D. Forde
Lowell D. Forde, 78, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 30, 1940, in Decorah, the son of Walter and Gladys (Hulquist) Forde. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Suzanne Nodland Faldet on July 4, 199,3 in Las Vegas, Nev. Lowell worked as a barge captain on the Mississippi River for many years. He was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien and loved picnics.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne, of Prairie du Chien; stepchildren, Deborah (Wayne) Kirkeby, of Ridgeway, Iowa, Dawn (John) Pappas, of Maple Grove, Minn., Marcus (Jody) Faldet, of Cresco, Iowa, and Marty (Jenny) Faldet, of Calmar, Iowa; brothers, Bruce (Cam) Forde, of Decorah, Iowa, and Wilbur (Judy) Forde, of Little Rock, Ark.; 12 step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; and a nephew Chris.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a step granddaughter Chanda Halverson.
A memorial service will be Friday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien with Rev. Joe Irvin officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. A private family inurnment will be later. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
