Softball team brings back five seniors

The MFL MarMac softball team returns seven starters from last year, which head coach Jerald Kleve said will be a huge strength this season.
Of those seven, five are seniors: Hannah Schutte, Lizzie Herzmann, Keagan Moose, Kyleigh Picha and Jayde Schubert.
“They’ve been out all four years,” said Kleve. “That’s experience and the confidence level that will bring with that. That’s the biggest thing we have. The kids are comfortable.”
Kleve also values the insight he and new assistant coach Pat Wille can provide.
“We have a lot of experience between the two of us,” he noted, “and I think we can cover the bases pretty good.”
The Bulldogs should have no problem scoring runs this season, Kleve said. Rather, it will be the pitching that determines how far the team goes.
They’ll rely on junior Jordan Schubert, as well as freshman Lauren Haberichter, to pick up a lot of innings. Kleve said Mackenzy Ruff, a sophomore who saw some time on the mound last year, also returns. Eighth grader Grace Anderson will get a shot too.
In addition to Anderson, Kleve said several other young players will be expected to contribute. That includes sophomore Abby Koslowski, who’s back from an injury, freshmen Abby Schellhorn and Dacia Schoulte and eighth graders Ashley Shaw, Lauren Kishman and Savannah Schaller.
