Potosi-Cassville edges River Ridge
Potosi-Cassville defeated host River Ridge 24-21 at the Timberwolves’ homecoming game Friday night in Bloomington.
River Ridge dropped to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Six Rivers Conference. Potosi-Cassville upped their overall record to 3-2 and their conference mark to 1-2.
The Timberwolves got on the board first with a 3-yard TD run by Will Esser. The PAT by Kaine Baus was good and River Ridge had a 7-0 lead.
The Chieftains scored on a 19-yard run in the second period to pull within 7-6. With 5:37 to go in the second quarter, Potosi-Cassville scored again on a 25-yard interception return to take the lead at 12-7 at the half.
The Chieftains had a 21-yard passing touchdown in the third quarter to increase the margin to 18-7. A 31-yard touchdown pass by Potosi-Cassville in the third period upped their advantage to 24-7.
River Ridge was not done yet, however, as Cole Crubel went over from a yard out with 2 seconds remaining in the third quarter and the PAT was good as the Timberwolves cut the margin to 24-14.
With 3:01 to go in the game, Crubel connected with Brayan Barrita for a 14-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and Potosi-Cassville had a 24-21 lead, which would end up being the final score.
Crubel was 1 of 4 passing for 14 yards and a touchdown. Will Esser rushed 37 times for 173 yards and a TD. Archie Cooley had 2 carries for 43 yards. Barrita had 1 catch for 14 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Hunt recorded 11 tackles for the River Ridge defense. Connor Mumm had 8 tackles.
River Ridge will next host Black Hawk-Warren on Sept. 27.
