Jean Boehm McBride, 89, of California, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Moniteau Care Center. She was born on July 24, 1930 in Edgewood, Iowa, a daughter of Harvey and Sarah Jane (Noggle) Boehm. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Elkport, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Elvis Lowell “Harvey” McBride, April 21, 1951, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Washington, D.C.

Jean graduated from Littleport High School in Iowa in 1947. She moved to Washington D.C. at the age of 18, where she attended every presidential inauguration from Harry S Truman through Ronald Reagan. Jean met President George W. Bush in Jefferson City, while she was a member of Heisinger Board. She was very proud to share her experience with whomever would listen. She received her associate’s degree from Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Virginia in 1982.

Jean was an employee at the Bureau of National Affairs from 1951 to 1984, retiring as the chief of communications, where she oversaw the company’s distribution of all its legal publications. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Evening Guild, Altar Guild, Heisinger Lutheran Home Board and Auxiliary. She was an American Red Cross blood drive volunteer and coordinator and school and band supporter for her daughter and grandson. She did not know a stranger and could bring a smile to any face. She was a loving wife and mother that cherished the times spent with family. Jean loved traveling and being a tour guide, was a voracious reader and loved her crosswords.

She is survived by her daughter: Leslie McBride Powell of California, Missouri; grandchild: Sam Powell (Lisa) of Jefferson City and their children: Elliott, Emerson and Heather Powell; brother-in-law: Charles Casteel and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jean is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters: Joyce Reyhons (Don), Violet Morris (Ray), Dorothy Boehm and brother-in-laws: Durward (Rosemary) McBride, Pete (Alma) McBride, Charles McBride and Leroy (Mary Lou) McBride and sister-in-law: Lucille Casteel.  

Friends were received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in California. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 23, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in California with Rev. Gerald Scheperle officiating. Interment followed in California City Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at St. Paul’s or the charity of donor’s choice.
